New year, new calendar • Jolly Mugsie • Classic combo • Legs out • Newest brow addition • Twenty-Four • Kinfolk and chill • Urban Jungle forever • Superstars • Pretty props • Iconic Nude • Skincare shake-up • To me, love me • Easter is coming • Lush Sunday pub lunch • Work space

I know everyone has this weird pessimism towards the first month of the year, what with it being the weeks following Christmas when you're skint, the weather's gross, and you're about 2 dress sizes bigger, but it's my birthday month so, of course, I still love you, January! Don't get me wrong, I am skint and I am probably 2 dress sizes bigger but personal issues aside (which I won't go into here) I have had a pretty good start to 2016.

The month started off with my brother's birthday, one too many Cosmopolitans with friends, and a fun little visit to the Doctors to get the implant fitted. Independent women taking charge of their lives, yeahhhhhh! Okay Katie, calm down, enough about that...

The main thing that happened in January was that I turned 24 on the 22nd.

Twenty. Four.

I mean, this is the last year that I'm closer to 20 than I am 30, how scary is that?! It's kind of made me realise that I need to start thinking properly about the future and what I really want out of life. It's strangely given me a lust for travel overnight as well! I'm thinking of doing a 30 before 30 list if that's something you'd be interested in reading!

Anyway, I had four lovely days off work to celebrate - Friday birthdays really are the bomb - and I spent so much time with family and friends, receiving some sweet cards and presents. I had brunch with my Mum at one of my favourite places and it quenched my avocado obsession for the rest of the day; I spent a day in sunny Brighton, a not-so-sophisticated night in my hometown, and indulged in a delicious pub lunch on the Sunday with my family. I also lucked out with presents this year. My parents bought me some Navy Hunter wellies, which have been on my wish list for literally YEARS, as well as a Harry Potter colouring book - I refuse to grow up, haha - a load of Too Faced Melted lipsticks (dreeeeeamy, blog post to follow soon!) and a new ZARA scarf too. My Mum also made me a chocolate Smarties cake from scratch and it was honestly the most scrumptious cake ever! My brother surprised me on the Sunday with a gorgeous pair of Adidas Superstars and it almost made me well up a little bit. I love, love, LOVE them. And I'm sorry if that now makes me a blogger cliché but I'm going to be taking waaaaay too many photos in them...

In other news, I've been blaming my terrible diet on my birthday weekend but in all honestly I never really started eating healthily in January at all. This is a trial month, okay? The real deal starts in February! We bought a spinning cycle and set it up in the spare room because we couldn't bear to embarrass ourselves and get all red and puffy in a gym class... It's bloody hard work, isn't it! Anyone who has ever seen Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt will know that a session is like that particular episode where everyone clips in, turns their resistance up to Gandhi, and pictures a peaceful beach in their minds.

"Jacqueline, get off my beach, find your own."

I even went as far as to create my own spinning playlist, I'm that serious about getting fit! I just need the healthy eating to go with it, which is easier said than done considering I've had a taste for McDonald's recently!

So, looking forward, I think that February is going to be a mixed bag. I'm still dating but nothing serious, so I'm 100% fronting the whole Galentine's Day movement (thanks Leslie Knope, my QUEEN) and will be getting together with a load of single girlfriends for the weekend instead of hanging out with stupid boys. Who's with me? I think Leslie is totally onto something here. It's also my Dad's birthday month so there's that to look forward to as well. Other than that I'm working pretty much the entire month and have a lovely dentist appointment - joy of joys!

How has your 2016 been so far? Have you kept any resolutions that you made?
