On Monday I hopped on a train to London and spent the whole day being a tourist with my best friend before she buggered off on her honeymoon. After an initial wander down towards Buckingham Palace and the Mall, our first real pit stop was Covent Garden where not only did I eat the most amazingly delicious cheeseburger I've ever had the pleasure of consuming thanks to Shake Shack (just check my Instagram for the evidence!), but I also indulged in a little box of French treats.

I cannot tell you how long I have waited to try the ever-popular, constantly-snapped Ladurée café. Oh gosh, the place is just gorgeous! It was like a Parisian getaway right in the heart of London, standing proud with its signature pastel green shop front and elegant golden branding. We walked in and were served immediately after gawking at the posh patisserie and oodles of macarons in the display cases. There was just so much to choose from! It took me a while to decide what I wanted and, knowing these famous macarons don't come cheap, I opted for a box of 8 to try. The flavours I decided on were:

Marie-Antoinette Tea
Salted Caramel
Rose Petal
Blackcurrant Violet

I must admit, these delicate little sugar shells did not make for great transporting. We bought them around lunch time and I didn't get home until after 11pm after lugging all my shopping bags through the busy crowds in both Oxford Street and Piccadilly Circus, and then a packed 2-hour train journey home. That's why my photographs show definite signs of squishiness! They went straight into my fridge as soon as I got home and Ladurée recommends you remove them 15-20 minutes prior to serving for optimal taste, and consume within 4 days of purchase.

So after a hellish day back at work, I sat down with a huge cup of tea and had a little taster session with my Mum and, oh my god, they did not disappoint in any way. The macaron shell was still beautifully crisp and melted in the mouth; the ganache in every variety was truly to die for - so smooth and velvety. Each flavour we tried was delicious and some were a real pleasant surprise (Marie-Antoinette Tea though!). My favourite was a tie between Pistachio and Salted Caramel. Just wow!

My first experience with Ladurée was a really great one. I can't wait to go back to Covent Garden and actually sit in the café and treat myself to more delicate morsels and try their perfect patisserie too. Perhaps I should put in a request for my birthday weekend in January, non?

Have you ever tried Ladurée macarons before? Which is your favourite flavour?
